Imaging the Far Side of the Sun

The images are maps of wave speed variations with locations of faster wave speed shown darker. These darker regions indicate locations where there is an accumulation of magnetic field on the far surface. The farsideimages can currently only be computed out to 45 degrees from the farside disk center as (un)seen from Earth. These results are for 2001 Sep 29. The top image is from MDI and the middle from the GONG+ network, while the bottom represents the synoptic map of magnetic activity as observed from the visible side for the whole solar rotation.

For more details on farside imaging, see Magnetic maps of the whole Sun for MDI and Far-side Imaging with GONG+ for GONG+.
