Hotel Accommodations

Please find below information about hotel accommodations near NOAO for the Telescope Proposal Process meeting, August 10-11, 1998, in NOAO's Main Conference Room.

We have rooms held at the Marriott University Park Hotel at a rate of $72/night (+tax of 9.5% and a $1.00 bed tax per night). If you choose to stay at the Marriott, please contact them by July 15th, to confirm your reservation with a credit card. Their number is 1-800-228-9290; tell them you are with NOAO. The Marriott is located at 880 East Second Street, on the west side of the UA campus.

Other options near NOAO are:

Peppertrees Bed & Breakfast (520-622-7167): single $68 - double $78. Peppertrees is located near the Marriott.

Plaza Hotel (520-327-7341): $69, or $79 for a room with a balcony. The Plaza is really close to NOAO (5 minute walk) but its drawback has been its location on noisy Speedway Blvd and rooms that haven't been spruced up in a while. However, they have recently remodelled to help with busy street noise and to update the rooms, but I have not actually stayed there myself so I can't vouch for it!

Arizona Inn (520-325-1541): Higher - from $84-103 per night, but a lovely historial setting.

These are all within walking distance (up to a 15-20 minute walk), although it gets quite warm in the afternoon (ok, hot) - so if heat is a problem for you, you may want to consider staying at the Plaza or renting a car or taking a cab (and we sometimes get afternoon storms in August).

Another place that is a favorite with NOAO visitors because of its studio-like rooms with kitchens is the Residence Inn. They are about a 20-minute drive from NOAO. Their one bedroom/one bath studio suite is $67/night this summer (tell them you're with NOAO - 520/721-0991).

It would be helpful if you could let me know where you plan to stay - the Marriott will release our rooms after the 15th, so if I don't see that everyone is staying there, I'll worry that you didn't get a room. Also, please let me know if you need parking reserved if you're renting a car. Visitors can park in one of the UA garages, but we need to reserve space ahead of time.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
