Title: [NeII] in T Tauri Stars with TEXES on Gemini
Abstract: [Ne II] forbidden line emission is commonly seen in Spitzer spectra of young stars. In these objects, the emission may be a sensitive probe of disk \it gas lifetimes and/or provide insight into the processes involved with disk dissipation. Unfortunately, understanding and using [Ne II] emission is impossible at the low spectral resolution of Spitzer IRS. Ground-based follow-up suggests the [Ne II] may be extended and not associated with the disk at R<20 AU. We propose to observe 20 sources the Herbig-Bell Catalog identified as T Tauri stars with TEXES on Gemini-North. Our detection rate and the dynamic information provided by our observations will address the reliability of associating [Ne II] emission with T Tauri disks and the most likely physical conditions that give rise to [Ne II] emission. Together, this will lead to better understanding of this new diagnostic.
