Title: Extending the Orphan Stream with DECam
Abstract: We propose to use DECam to trace the Orphan stellar stream another 41\arcdeg to the south, increasing its known extent from 70\arcdeg to 111\arcdeg. By extending the stream into regions less confused by the stronger Sagittarius stream, we can i) refine the orbit the stream, 2) better constrain the shape of the Galactic potential, and iii) eventually probe the population of dark matter subhalos out to 100 kpc. The unique capabilities of DECam make this project doable in just a single night of observing time.
