Title: Exploring the Narrow Line Region Sizes of IR-luminous Type II QSOs with GMOS-IFU Data

Abstract: IFU spectroscopy has been a powerful tool for examining the size and kinematics of the extended narrow-line regions (NLR) around active galactic nuclei (AGN). Using the relationship between AGN power (as traced by the 8 micron luminosity) and NLR size, we have uncovered evidence for an upper limit on the NLR size at the high luminosity end of the relation, but a larger sample of IR-luminous objects is necessary to fully explore this limit. We propose to observe a sample of 7 IR-bright type 2 QSOs at z = 0.49 - 0.61 for this purpose. Using GMOS-IFU spectroscopy, we can perform a detailed analysis of the kinematics and ionization properties in this sample of systems where the central AGN may have ionized all of the available gas throughout the galaxy. Based on a previous study of similar objects with GMOS, the study of the NLR size and kinematics of this IR-luminous sample will clearly demonstrate the effects that a powerful AGN can have on gas at tens of kpc.
