Title: A Search for High Proper Motion Objects with WISE
Abstract: I am conducting a search for high proper motion sources using multi- epoch all-sky mid-infrared images from the WISE satellite. I am seeking to identify nearby stars and brown dwarfs that have been overlooked in previous photometric surveys because of their proximity to the galactic plane or unusual colors. Through this work, I recently discovered a binary brown dwarf that has a proper motion of 3\arcsec yr^-1 and parallax distance of 2.0 pc, making it the 3rd closest star system to the Sun. I propose to use optical spectroscopy at SOAR to measure the spectral types of additional high proper motion candidates ((mu)~0.5- 2\arcsec yr^-1, d~10-20 pc).
