Title: AO-Assisted Observations of the Dayside Emission Spectrum of KOI-13.01

Abstract: We propose to use Keck-II NIRC2 +NGS AO in the NIR H and Ks bands to detect the secondary eclipses of the hot Jupiter candidate KOI-13.01. The ~1 arcsec separation of the KOI-13AB double star will be completely resolved and separated by the NGS AO to provide high precision calibration of the planet's secondary eclipse light curves. The resulting emission spectrum of the planet in each of the H & Ks bands will also serve as a crosscheck to each other to ensure the overall reliability of the measurements. We aim to: 1. obtain KOI- 13.01's H+Ks dayside emission spectrum; 2. combine the Kepler results to provide insights into its atmospheric properties such as Bond albedo, thermal inversion, chemical composition and energy distribution with multi-wavelength information, and enable comparison with other hot Jupiters; and 3. investigate KOI-13.01's planetary or brown dwarf nature using its NIR spectrum and accurately determined flux contribution from each stellar component.
