Title: Measuring Mass Flows and Magnetic Fields on Herbig Ae/Be Stars

Abstract: Herbig Ae/Be stars (HAEBES) are intermediate mass pre-main sequence stars that are generally considered to be higher mass equivalents of classical T Tauri stars. However, the current statistics regarding accretion and outflow signatures do not necessarily support the conclusion that these stars interact with their circumstellar environments in the same way CTTSs do. In order to investigate mass flows in our sample we will take high resolution spectra of the He I (lambda)10830 line, which is a good diagnostic of both mass loss and accretion. In addition, we will take high resolution spectra of multiple magnetically sensitive photospheric absorption lines near ~1.56 (micron) in order to measure field strengths via the Zeeman effect. More robust statistics concerning the incidence of mass flows and the strength of magnetic fields on these stars will allow us to make meaningful conclusions about the differences between the driving mechanisms of these flows and the evolutionary role of the magnetic field in HAEBES and CTTSs. \bigskip
