Title: A Census of Low-mass Stars and Brown Dwarfs in Upper Scorpius
Abstract: The Upper Scorpius association likely contains the largest population of low-mass stars and brown dwarfs among the nearest and youngest clusters and associations ((tau)\lesssim10 Myr, d\lesssim150 pc). Thus, it offers the best available statistical constraints on the IMF and other properties of low-mass objects (e.g., binary fraction, disk fraction). We propose to continue our efforts at achieving a largely complete census of low-mass members of Upper Sco by obtaining optical spectra of candidate members that we have identified from wide-field optical and near-infrared surveys (2MASS, DENIS, UKIDSS), which will be used to measure their spectral types and confirm their membership.
