Title: Surveying the Northern Bulge (SNOB) with AAOmega

Abstract: We propose to carry out a radial velocity and abundance survey of fields in the Northern Galactic Bulge, to complete and extend our successful analysis of the internal kinematics of the bulge we have carried out in the Southern Bulge within the BRAVA collaboration. The large field of view, high multiplex, and considerably higher efficiency offered by the AAOmega instrument will allow us to obtain spectra for upward of 20,000 stars at R ~11,000, compensating for the higher extinction of the Northern Bulge. This will be the first in-depth optical examination of the Northern Bulge (the APOGEE survey can only reach the upper regions of the bulge and can only use the more poorly understood infrared regions of the spectrum as it can only observe at high airmass). We will be able to check the symmetry of the bulge rotation curve and set more stringent limits on the presence of a classical bulge by joining abundances and stellar kinematics.
