Title: Feedback in 3C 277.3
Abstract:
We propose to observe the jet/cloud interaction in 3C 277.3 with Gemini-N
GMOS IFU. In this galaxy the nuclear jet runs into a cloud of gas in the
intergalactic medum and is deflected. The deflection is associated with a
bright peak of X-ray, radio and optical emission. The proposed IFU
spectroscopy forms part of a multi-wavelength study of this jet/cloud
interaction at X-ray, optical and radio wavelengths. Spatially extended
optical line emission is seen on arcsecond scales, with a range of broadened
and velocity shifted emission lines. The IFU spectroscopy will map the gas
velocity structure, line ratios and ionization state across the interaction
region. The goal is to understand how jets interact with their environment.
