Title: The Mass-Metallicity Relation of Faint Galaxies at \ztwo
Abstract: We propose to constrain the physical conditions in low mass (~10^9-10^10 \msun) galaxies at \ztwo, with primary focus on the faint end of the mass-metallicity relation, using one night of Keck MOSFIRE spectroscopy. Our primary targets will be faint galaxies with high equivalent width \OIII emission selected from our \it HST WFC3 grism spectroscopy program, which are likely to be low in both mass and metallicity; these galaxies will be supplemented by color-selected galaxies at \ztwo covering a broader range of properties. We will observe ~60 galaxies in the J, H and K bands, covering the full suite of strong nebular emission lines. These observations will be used to measure the metallicity, ionization parameter, electron density, extinction, star formation rate and velocity dispersion, with particular focus on the faint-end slope of the mass-metallicity relation. Measurement of this slope will provide constraints on the strength of galactic outflows as a function of galaxy mass, a key ingredient in models of galaxy evolution.
