Title: DECam NEO Search Pilot Project
Abstract: We propose a pilot near-earth asteroid search with the Dark Energy Camera. The combination of DECam's large field of view and the Blanco's aperture yields an etendue that is unprecedented among previous and ongoing NEO searches. In the 4 nights requested here, we expect to detect up to 200 objects, 80% of which are fainter than the faintest NEOs detected by existing surveys. If awarded, the time will also be used to test observing strategies and data pipeline performance in preparation for a larger NEO Survey in 2013.
