Title: The Carnegie Spitzer IMACS Survey: 5-band Optical Imaging of the Southern Fields

Abstract: We request time with DECam to image the southern fields in our wide- area deep spectrophotometric survey of galaxy and large-scale structure evolution from z=1.5 to the present. Our survey combines low dispersion (R~ 25) spectroscopy with broadband colors (ugriz in XMM-LSS) for a rigorous procedure of SED fitting with galaxy templates, achieving \sigma_z/(1+z)=0.012 at z~ 1. In total we cover 15 degs^2 over three SWIRE fields (XMM-LSS, ELAIS-S1, and CDFS) for which legacy optical data would in principle be available, and when completed the survey will cover an unbiased volume equal to the SDSS with similar depth in stellar mass. The Magellan spectroscopy in XMM-LSS is complete, and we will be finishing the ELAIS-S1 and CDFS spectroscopy this coming semester. However, two southern fields (ELAIS-S1 and CDFS) ultimately have non-optimal optical photometric coverage: they were imaged neither uniformly nor with the same filter set as in XMM-LSS. To rectify this, we request shared-risk time with DECam to obtain ugriz imaging over the two fields (8 degs^2) not covered in these bands.
