Title: Finishing Off The Galactic Globular Cluster System
Abstract: Studies of the Galactic globular cluster system have provided key insights into such diverse topics as stellar populations, galaxy formation, and the age of the Universe. Yet despite their importance, integrated photometric properties of Galactic globular clusters are currently derived from extremely inhomogeneous data culled from a variety of sources and detectors dating back nearly 70 years. With the emergence of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) filter system as a popular choice for both ground-based and space-based observations, the time is ripe to produce a definitive and homogeneous database of integrated colors for the entire Galactic globular cluster system based on SDSS photometric observations. With this motivation, we embarked on an ambitious program several years ago using CTIO telescopes to derive the first color-metallicity relations using the SDSS filter system, and we were awarded several observing runs. These data form the foundation of the PI's PhD thesis. Here we request time to complete our program by obtaining griz photometry of Galactic globular clusters for which we were unable to obtain data under photometric conditions during our earlier runs. These observations will greatly enhance the value of our database for the wider astronomical community.
