Title: Multi-Color Photometry of New SX Phe Stars
Abstract:
Fewer than 20 field SX Phe stars have been discovered. Using the
newly calibrated LINEAR database our collaboration has discovered over
100 new candidate field SX Phe stars. We have used archival SDSS
spectra and have obtained new spectra to positively confirm 25 stars as
being population II. Unfortunately, the LINEAR survey utilized a single
broadband filter (essentially white light). We propose here to obtain
B, V, R, I time-series photometry of several of these objects to extract
stellar parameters and characterize this new population of stars.
Beside characterizing the SX Phe stars, which are an interesting example
of post-collisional pulsating stars, we may compare the metallicities of
these objects with that of the halo, thus informing Galactic formation
and evolution schemes.
