Title: Spectroscopic Confirmation of Spitzer-Selected Galaxy Clusters at \boldmathz ~ 1.4

Abstract: We propose spectroscopic follow-up of two mid-infrared selected high- redshift galaxy cluster candidates at z ~ 1.4 from our Cycle 7 \it Spitzer large program (~ 120 hr on sky to date). This recent program takes advantage of the known tendency for radio-loud AGN to reside in rich environments, as well as the efficiency with which \it Spitzer detects and isolates L^* galaxies at z > 1.2. We have already observed more than 100 radio-loud AGN at 1.3 < z < 2.0. We propose here a pilot program to obtain spectroscopic confirmation of two of the most promising fields at the lower end of our redshift range, z ~ 1.4. One candidate will be observed with GMOS-N, one with GMOS- S. These data will be valuable both as a probe of fundamental cosmological parameters as well as for studying the formation and evolution of cluster galaxies.
