Title: Are There Old SMC Stars Scattered Across the LMC/SMC Bridge?
Abstract: It has recently become clear that the Magellanic Clouds have probably \bf not orbited the Milky Way for a Hubble Time, forcing astronomers to come up with other explanations for the features we see, such as the Magellanic Stream. Modeling and spectroscopy have shown that gas removed from the an intially larger SMC with an extended gaseous component can explain the Magellanic Stream, while ``LMC stars'' with anomalous velocities and abundances are probably former SMC stars. The Bridge between the two Clouds is a prime region for testing these ideas and for searching for stars initially in the outer regions of the SMC. We propose to use the strategy (and data reduction pipeline) developed in our Magellanic Cloud ``Outer Limits'' NOAO imaging survey to observe 10 fields in the Bridge region for older stars (or limits on same). Because Mosaic2, with its rich filter set, is about to be retired, this is the last chance to obtain data consistent with the large and successful Outer Limits survey.
