Title: Colors and Spins of Jupiter's Greeks and Trojans
Abstract: We propose to make light curve observations in both the V and I filters of the 25 brightest Jupiter Trojans with 13 having been selected from the L4 (Greek) and 12 from the L5 (Trojan) Lagrangian camps using the CTIO 1m, in conjunction with data gathered at Lowell Observatory. With these data we will measure rotational periods and brightness changes that yield information about albedo variation (or lack thereof), shapes, and minimum densities for the largest members of the two camps. Fully sampled light curves with well determined periods exist for only 9 of these targets, and none have simultaneous color information. These data will also enable calibration of our ongoing photometry program which will search for comparisons between the Greek and Trojan swarms and other Solar System populations to discover the possible origins of the two camps, which remain surprisingly obscure. These light curves will also be important for the creation of phase curves that can be used to systematically calibrate the photometry over time. \emphThe proposed observations will comprise a significant portion of the PI's PhD thesis.
