Title: Weighing the Black Hole in Megamaser Galaxy NGC 1194
Abstract: We propose to measure stellar and gas kinematics in the megamaser galaxy NGC 1194 using OSIRIS with laser guide star adaptive optics. NGC 1194 has a 5% black hole mass derived from the Keplerian rotation of megamasers in a subparsec-scale accretion disk. Current constraints on the coevolution of black holes and galaxies are limited by systematics in the dynamical black hole mass measurements. This experiment is designed to explore these potential biases by comparing two independent black hole mass measurements in the same object.
