Title: Stellar Diameters in the Beta Pic Moving Group
Abstract: We propose two types of measurements of pre-main sequence stars (age 10-20 MY) in the (beta) Pic Moving Group (BPMG) using the CHARA Interferometer (CHARA-I). The first is to use the VEGA visible light spectroscopic beam combiner at 570 to 750 nm to measure the angular diameters of BPMG members HIP 560 and HIP 21547 whose ~ 0.5 mas angular diameters we measured at H and K at the CHARA-I in Sept. 2010. This will yield the wavelength dependence of their limb darkening and hence the distribution of photospheric temperature \it vs optical depth. The second is to use the CHARA-I in its CLASSIC (two telescope baseline) mode to measure at H and K the angular diameters of 3 more BPMG members with accurate parallaxes. Together with the H and K-band angular diameters already measured, this will provide estimates of the ages of the stars and hence of formation times of 5 members. Was their formation coeval?
