Title: Galaxies at the Epoch of Peak Star Formation: Stellar population properties of a WFC3 spectroscopically selected sample
Abstract: We request five nights of WIYN/MiniMo observations to provide critical ancillary data to accompany the WFC3 Infrared Spectroscopic Parallel (WISP) survey. These optical data will help us measure stellar masses, ages, and dust extinctions for thousands of galaxies at 0.5< z < 2.5. With the combined HST/WIYN data we will measure the evolution of the mass-metallicity relation over 1 < z < 2, reaching the faint/low mass end (to 0.1 L^*) with our deep HST WFC3/IR images. In addition, stellar mass measurements enabled by these WIYN observations will be used to constrain the mass-size relation in early type galaxies, which we are uncovering with low-resolution WFC3/IR spectroscopy. These new observations will have lasting archival value, as they build upon a significant investment of HST time, and contribute to a number of other projects. We will include these imaging data in a public release of our HST data.
