Title: Resolved Tracers of Substructure in Galaxy Halos
Abstract:
We propose a pioneering study of the kinematics and metallicities of stellar
streams and shells in the halos of disk galaxies outside the Local Group,
using planetary nebulae and globular clusters as tracers. The initial step is
a wide-field narrow- and wide-band imaging survey using Subaru/Suprime-Cam.
Follow-up spectroscopy will be used to capture the ongoing build-up of
fundamental halo quantities such as mass, angular momentum, and metallicity.
