Title: Southern A-Star Survey with Spartan IR
Abstract: We propose to conduct a volume limited (D < 75pc) multiplicity survey of southern A-type stars using the Spartan IR Camera. In conjunction with similar data on northern A-type stars and archive data, the proposed observations will form a comprehensive database on early type multiplicity. The survey goals are detailing key binary statistics for A-stars - the frequency, mass ratio and separation distributions - at a level previously measured only for later spectral types. The statistical results of the survey will provide important tests of binary formation models and be of interest for future exoplanet searches around this type of star.
