Title: A Wide-Field Multi-Wavelength Study of RCS Galaxy Clusters: Tracing Star Formation from the Field to Cluster Cores

Abstract: The differential evolution of galaxies in clusters and in the field strongly suggests that the infall of galaxies into clusters affects their star formation histories. Tracing the evolution of galaxies during the plunge requires observations of a statistical sample of clusters over a range of redshifts and to radii much larger than the virial radius of the cluster. We propose NEWFIRM and MOSAIC wide-field observations of a sample of 18 galaxy clusters with 0.3 < z < 0.9 from the RCS-1 cluster survey. These clusters have extensive multi- wavelength data, including spectroscopy over a 25 arcminute field of view which has yielded hundreds of redshifts per field. We will combine our proposed optical/NIR imaging data with previous photometric and spectroscopic observations to constrain galaxy masses and star formation rates of galaxies in groups and filamentary structures from several virial radii into the cluster core.
