Title: 3D ORBITS IN THE HIERARCHICAL TRIPLE SYSTEM LAMBDA TAURI
Abstract: Hierarchical triple systems (a close binary star orbited by a distant third object) are frequent objects in the Galaxy. The key parameter (the strength of the perturbation) is the ratio of the orbital period of the third body to the orbital period of the close pair. The smaller the period ratio the larger the perturbations. Among the known systems, this ratio is the smallest in (lambda) Tauri, which consists of a B3V+A4IV eclipsing pair (P_orb=3.95 days) and a distant third object (K0V, P_orb=33 days). This system is crucial object for dynamical studies of this kind of the three-body problem, because the perturbations can cause extremely large changes in the orbital elements and the periods. The orientation of the orbital plane of the close pair is not known and the corresponding orbital elements can be determined only by interferometry which is the aim of our study.
