Title: Fluorine abundances in thin and thick disk stars
Abstract:
Fluorine is an element whose nucleosynthetic origin remains unclear. The
relative contributions to fluorine from (i) He burning in asymptotic giant
branch stars, (ii) neutrino nucleosynthesis in massive-star core-collapse
Type II supernovae and (iii) He burning in Wolf-Rayet stars continue to be
debated. We propose to conduct a highly accurate differential study of the
abundances of fluorine in a sample of thin disk and thick disk stars. By
exploiting the known differences in chemical abundance patterns between the
Galaxy's thin and thick disks, our observations will offer insight into (1)
the origin of fluorine and (2) the chemical enrichment histories of the thin
and thick disks.
