Title: The formation of globular clusters and ultra-compact dwarf galaxies
Abstract:
This proposal is one part of a larger theoretical and observational
project to determine the origins of globular clusters and ultra-compact
dwarf (UCD) galaxies.
The aim of this part of the project is to determine the formation
mechanism of the luminous globular clusters and UCDs found around large
elliptical galaxies in dense cluster or group environments. Here we
request Mosaic observations to measure the populations of these objects
around 14 cluster elliptical galaxies. These observations will be used
to test and refine our numerical simulations of globular clusters and
UCDs so that we can then use the simulations to test the main theories
of globular cluster and UCD formation.
