Title: SuprimeCam-SERVS: A search for optical counterparts of high-z galaxies and quasars

Abstract: The Spitzer Extragalactic Representative Volume Surveys (SERVS) will uniquely probe the evolution of massive galaxies from z 6 to z 1 through deep observations in a volume of 0.8 cubic Gpc, spread over 5 well-studied fields. While these fields are/will be covered by a plethora of complementary multiwavelength surveys including VISTA-VIDEO, XMM, ATCA, ATKAP, GMRT as well as SCUBA-2 and Herschel, they lack crucial deep optical imaging data. The lack of this data severly compromises our ability to exploit the full potential of the Spitzer data, in particular for characterising the properties of high-z galaxies via analysis of their multiwavelength SEDs. The mapping speed and sensitivity offered by Subaru/SuprimeCam to enable us to identify 90% of the IRAC-detected sources in SERVS, opposed to only 50% in the existing wide field imaging over these areas. Therefore we propose deep i'- and z'-band imaging surveys of the Lockman and XMM-LSS SERVS fields.
