Title: Synoptic Monitoring of YSOs in Orion with Flamingos and Spitzer

Abstract: We propose to use Flamingos on the KPNO 2.1m to obtain synoptic monitoring at J and Ks bands of > 700 Class I and II young-stellar objects in an ~ 1 square degree region of the Orion Nebula Cluster over a 10 night period. These data will be used to complement time- series photometry we will be obtaining with IRAC on the Spitzer Space telescope as part of a recently approved "Exploration Science" program to be carried out during the Spitzer warm mission. The goal of this program is to use the multi-wavelength photometric monitoring data to determine the physical mechanisms responsible for the near-IR and mid-IR variability of these YSOs, and therefore, shed new light on the processes involved in accreting matter onto the youngest stars (beyond the realm of steady-state accretion from axially symmetric disks).
