Title: Synoptic Monitoring of Star Forming Cores
Abstract: We propose to use ANDICAM on the CTIO-1.3m telescope to obtain synoptic monitoring at J-band of >150 very young, embedded Class I and II young-stellar objects in two star-forming cores over 20 night periods. These data will be used to complement time-series photometry we will be obtaining with IRAC on the Spitzer Space telescope as part of a recently approved "Exploration Science" program to be carried out during the Spitzer warm mission. The goal of this program is to use the multi-wavelength photometric monitoring data to determine the physical mechanisms responsible for the near-IR and mid-IR variability of these YSOs, and therefore, shed new light on the processes involved in accreting matter onto the youngest stars (beyond the realm of steady- state accretion from axially symmetric disks).
