Title: Follow-up of planet candidates from the SDSS-III MARVELS planet survey
Abstract: We propose to observe ~40 extrasolar planet and brown dwarf candidates using the recently upgraded Exoplanet Tracker (ET) instrument at the KPNO 2.1m. These candidates are mainly from the early survey of the on-going SDSS-III Multi-object APO Radial Velocity Exoplanet Large- area Survey (MARVELS) in Oct. 2008-May 2009 and also from the MARVELS pilot survey in January 2007-June 2007. Our observations will take full advantage of the newly installed thermally compensated monolithic interferometer and a new data pipeline that is based on bracketing plus separated beam calibration that minimizes long term systematic errors associated with the earlier PZT controlled interferometer and the old data pipeline using the iodine superimposing calibration method. Our results will be used for a statistical study of planet properties and investigation of planet formation, migration and evolution. We will continue to support public access to the ET instrument for independent high precision RV studies.
