Title: An unbiased survey of galactic superwind environments at 0.4 < z < 0.8

Abstract: Large-scale outflows from galaxies are an important but poorly understood aspect of galaxy evolution. Locally they are uncommon and identified in heterogeneous manners, and at high-z have only been identified in bright, known star-forming galaxies. Recent work has shown that most of the strongest intervening quasar absorption line systems trace galactic superwinds, thus providing an method of identifying them at any redshift in a uniform manner, independent of luminosity biases. We propose to image the fields of 30 such systems to identify the galaxies associated with the absorbers/superwinds and study their environments. Together with WIYN images of 26 other fields already in hand, this will result in a complete low-z, high-line strength sample from our statistical Sloan Digital Sky Survey Mg\sc II absorber catalog.
