Title: Spectroscopy of Bright (K < 17) EROs
Abstract: We propose spectroscopic observations of the 11 brightest extremely red objects (EROs) selected from the Bootes field of the NOAO Deep Wide-Field Survey (NDWFS) and FLAMINGOS Extragalactic (FLAMEX) survey, two large survey programs conducted using NOAO facilities. These 11 sources have K_s < 17 and R - K_s > 6, and represent the bright end of the ERO population. Wide-field surveys are required to identify them, and they are amenable to detailed investigation. We propose optical and near-IR spectroscopic observations to determine their redshifts, characterize their stellar populations, measure their dust content, and explore their environments. \it Spitzer data in this field will provide stellar masses.
