Title: The Fraction of Galaxies with AGN from ChaMP

Abstract: The ChaMP has completed its deep NOAO/MOSAIC \gp\rp\ip imaging program and is concentrating on spectroscopy both deep (Keck) and wide (WIYN) of serendipitous X-ray sources. In the 17.7<\rp<21 range, ChaMP/WIYN provides the usual slew of interesting X-ray selected AGN to fill opposite corners of the AGN L_X-z plane. We also seek, as described here, a z$<0.4 volume-limited sample of X-ray emitting galaxies (and a control sample) to constrain (1) the fraction of galaxies hosting AGN (2) the relationship between nuclear gas absorption and dust extinction (3) the reliability of X-ray star-formation rate (SFR) estimates, and (4) redshifts and luminosities of serendipitous X- ray selected clusters. X-rays for the optical galaxy control sample will be stacked in redshift bins to achieve equivalent ~2Msec Chandra exposures. We propose WIYN/Hydra spectroscopy to \rp$~20.5 in seven T$>30 Chandra fields to measure redshifts, luminosities, galaxy classifications and emission line characteristics for about 100 X-ray objects, ~35 of which we expect to be are normal or star-forming galaxies.
