Title: Black Hole Mass - Bulge Luminosity Relation and Bulge Color of Narrow- line Seyfert 1 Galaxies
Abstract: Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) are a subclass of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) which likely have small black-hole (BH) masses (M_\rm BH) and/or high accretion rate (\dotM). Their large \dotM / M_\rm BH ratio means that NLS1s are in major growing phase of BHs: NLS1s are the key objects for revealing evolution of AGNs. The correlation between M_\rm BH and bulge luminosity (L_\rm bulge), indicative of their co-evolution, was found in quiescent galaxies and Broad-Line Seyfert 1s. Recent discovery of lower M_\rm BH/L_\rm bulge ratio in NLS1s would mean that BHs in NLS1s has not grown yet. However, this ``discovery'' is still controversial, due to large systematic overestimation of L_\rm bulge by using empirical formula. We therefore propose to measure L_\rm bulge of nearby NLS1s by imaging with OPTIC equipped at the WIYN telescope. The excellent spatial resolution will enable us to make accurate bulge decomposition. If the lower M_\rm BH/L_\rm bulge ratio in NLS1s is finally established, it will verify that NLS1s are young AGNs and that BH growth is slightly delayed after bulge growth. Furthermore, we will examine bulge colors of NLS1s by observing in two bands. If they have blue colors, it would indicate the presence of star formation in the bulges and be a direct evidence for co-evolution of galaxies and BHs.
