Title: Completing the Optical Spectroscopic Survey of the Orion Nebula Cluster

Abstract: We propose to continue and conclude our investigation of the optically visible stellar population associated with the Orion Nebula Cluster. Between 1994 and 1996 we collected several hundred spectra with KPNO instrumentation which were utilized by Hillenbrand (1997) to study the stellar population, initial mass function, and star formation history in the Orion Nebula Cluster. That paper and its accompanying database have been used over the years by many other investigators studying stellar angular momentum, circumstellar disks, x-rays, accretion, and other properties of stars in the ONC. However, the Hillenbrand (1997) spectroscopic survey was only ~60% complete, though representative of the optically visible stellar population. Recent major surveys to unprecedented depth from x-ray to mid-infrared wavelengths are currently underway. These new surveys are limited in their analyses phases, however, due to lack of completeness of the ONC optical spectroscopic survey. I propose here to finish the job.
