Title: An Inventory of Disks, Protostars, and Proto-Brown Dwarfs in Young Stellar Clusters: Imaging with FLAMINGOS and \it Spitzer
Abstract: Because of weather and telescope mechanical failure, our November 2003 program was not completed. We propose wide-field (20' \times 20') FLAMINGOS JHK imaging of eight young (< 1 Myr) stellar clusters targeted for our \it Spitzer GTO observations. These observations will be a key component in an IR/X-ray/millimeter-wave study of young stellar clusters within 1 kpc of the Sun, with the goals of: 1.) surveying each group and cluster to below the hydrogen burning limit, 2.) measuring the fraction of cluster members that have circumstellar disks, and 3.) investigating the relationship between the spatial distribution of young stars and protostars and the distribution of gas and dust in the natal cloud to test theories on clustered star formation. The combined FLAMINGOS+\it Spitzer data will provide a complete inventory of circumstellar disks and protostars in our sample of young stellar clusters. FLAMINGOS on the 2.1-m is well matched to the field of view and sensitivity of the \it Spitzer observations, and will provide complementary near IR photometry for all but the reddest \it Spitzer sources.
