Title: IR Emission Line Images of the Photodissociation Region Sharpless 106
Abstract:
The photo-dissociation region (PDR) associated with Sharpless 106,
an isolated, nearby emission nebula with bipolar outflow, provides an
ideal target in which to determine the complex distribution of gas and
dust within an active star forming complex. The UV photons of the
embedded OB star(s) excite important tracers of gas density, excitation,
extinction towards the gas, and the distribution of the hot dust. I
propose to employ FLAMIGOS in longslit mode using the KH grism to
produce a spatial map (140" by 480") of S106 with full spectral coverage
within the H and K bands and provide a unique spectral snapshot of the
astrophysics within a region where massive stars are forming.
