Title: Measuring the metallicity of the young star formation region Taurus- Auriga
Abstract: We propose to determine the metallicity, [Fe/H], of young, X-ray selected, solar-type stars in the Taurus Auriga star forming region - the T Tauri stars. We shall select only those candidate members which do not show signs of active accretion from a circumstellar accretion disk, the so-called weak-lined T Tauri stars. The metallicity determinations are to be used in order to investigate the influence of the metallicity on the global properties of young stars such as rotation, lithium abundance, magnetic activity and multiplicity. By observing the targets at two differing epochs, separated by 5-7 days, we shall be able to establish which stars are indeed short/intermediate period binary/multiple systems. In addition, these [Fe/H] measurements will help direct future campaigns aiming to search for extra-solar planets around young stars to focus their efforts towards more metal-rich star-forming regions.
