Title: The Kinematic Structure of Ionized Gas Toward h and (chi) Persei
Abstract: Observations of the interstellar medium reveal a complex assortment of shells, loops, filaments and ``clumps'' over a wide range of physical scales. However, while sub-parsec scale features have been observed in atomic, molecular and ionized gas, these observations have sampled different locales and have not allowed a synthesis of the interaction of all three phases in any one region. Therefore, we propose to obtain long-slit echelle observations of the H(alpha) emission line toward the double open cluster h and (chi) Per to explore the relationship between the ionized gas and our extensive observations of atomic (Na \sc i) and molecular (H_2) gas toward these objects. Our goals are to: (1) examine the global kinematics of ionized gas in this region, (2) explore the connection among small scale features in the atomic, molecular, and ionized gas phases, and (3) investigate the influence of massive stars on the interstellar gas.
