Title: Rare Objects and Photometric Redshifts in the SWIRE Legacy Survey
Abstract: The \bf SIRTF \bf Wide-area \bf Infra\bf Red \bf Extragalactic Survey (SWIRE) will survey 7 high-latitude fields, totaling 65 square degrees, in all 7 SIRTF 3-160(micron) imaging bands, discovering over 2\times10^6 Luminous Infrared Galaxies, early-type galaxies, and AGN, to determine the evolution of these populations in the context of cosmic structure formation and environment. These new large ``Cosmic Windows'', which have been carefully selected to minimize cirrus emission & X-ray-optical extinction over their \it entire area, will also have complete coverage by the GALEX deep survey & Herschel/SPIRE, making their scientific potential unique. Here we propose completion of the important optical imaging campaign of the SWIRE CDF-S and Lockman Hole fields. The goals are to identify rare objects, measure the evolution of clustering and bias on large size scales, provide photometric redshifts, and provide a non-proprietary Legacy catalog for future surveys at all wavelengths.
