Title: Multi-colour Photometry of Old Open Clusters
Abstract:
We propose to obtain deep UBVRI photometry of the distant old
clusters Saurer A, NGC 1193, Berkeley 66 and Berkeley 29 to improve the
determinations of their ages, distances and abundances. This is planned
as the first of several investigations of old open clusters. Open
clusters older than 1 Gyr help in our understanding of the early stages
of the formation of the galactic disk, but to this end accurate basic
cluster properties are required. Two of our targets are believed to be
the most distant open clusters known so far, and their study is valuable
to investigate the open-cluster population of the outer galactic disk.
The selected objects have not been included in other larger scale
projects.
