Title: A Wide Field Survey of Planetary Nebulae in M31
Abstract: We propose to undertake a deep, wide field survey for planetary nebulae within a 6^\circ \times 6^\circ area centered upon M31. Subsequent studies will use the planetary nebulae uncovered here to study the kinematics of large-scale structures recently discovered in M31's halo, thereby clarifying the origin of these structures and the evolution of M31's halo, and provide another means of measuring the mass of M31. These data will also be used to study the production of planetary nebulae in different stellar populations with a large range of metallicity and age in M31, a topic that touches upon a wide variety of issues related to stellar and galactic evolution.
