Title: Deep Imaging of Giant Herbig-Haro Flows from Young Stars in Taurus
Abstract:
We propose to use the MOSAIC imager on the KPNO 0.9 meter telescope
to survey the Taurus Molecular cloud in narrowband filters. We will
identify shocks from protostellar outflows (Herbig-Haro or HH objects)
and measure their area covering factor from which we will estimate the
momentum content of these flows. This cloud survey will supplement our
surveys of Perseus, Orion, and Carina in that it will allow us to
compare the roles of protostellar outflows and UV radiation in clouds
with differing stellar populations. Taurus will anchor this study in
that Taurus represents the nearest and lowest mass cloud available for
our survey.
