Title: A Near-Infrared Survey of the SIRTF/DEEP Groth Strip Field
Abstract: A massive assault on the high redshift universe is presently underway: the UC/Caltech DEEP survey, which will provide optical spectra and photometry of tens of thousands of galaxies; and the SIRTF/IRAC Deep Survey, which will extend this photometry to 160(micron) and enable selection of a sample of galaxies at rest frame K to z=3. These two surveys overlap in a 1200 square arcminute region containing the Groth Strip. Here we propose to obtain complementary photometry to J=22 and Ks=21.3, covering the rest frame optical at z=1 - 3. With an investment of resources which is small in comparison to that already allocated with Keck and SIRTF, FLAMINGOS on the 4m will remove the most significant remaining obstacle to comparing a comprehensive survey of the universe at z > 1 to similar studies of the local universe.
