Title: Deep Near-IR Imaging of a Complete Sample of X-ray Selected Galaxy Clusters at 0.6 < z < 1.3

Abstract: We propose to obtain deep JHK images with SQIID on the 4 m of the Rosat Deep Cluster Survey (RDCS) sample at 0.6 < z < 1.3. The RDCS is currently the premier sample of high redshift galaxy clusters and forms the basis of a combined Chandra/XMM program to determine the high- redshift X-ray temperature function, and a SIRTF/IRAC GTO program to measure the rest frame H-band luminosity function of high-z clusters. In combination with our existing optical data, we will use the new JHK photometry to estimate spectral energy distributions over a wide range in rest frame wavelengths. We will use these spectral energy distributions to determine photometric redshifts and to study the evolution of the cluster galaxy populations at constant rest frame wavelengths as a function of redshift and cluster X-ray luminosity.
