Title: Carbon Isotope Ratios in the Globular Cluster M3
Abstract: \large \vspace0.1in \beginflushleft The Li-rich giant IV-101 in the globular cluster M3 was recently discovered to have a very high lithium abundance, in contradiction to canonical theoretical models for low mass, low metallicity giants, which predict virtually complete lithium depletion. This unusual star also has an atypically high carbon isotope ratio (measured from a Keck NIRSPEC spectrum) compared to giants of similar temperature in other clusters. However, since there are no other isotope ratios determined for M3 giants we propose a short program to obtain Phoenix spectra of three comparable giants in this cluster to determine if the high lithium abundance and high isotope ratio are related by a common origin, or if the high isotope ratio is a general characteristic of M3 giants. The brief return of Phoenix to KPNO allows these observations to be taken. The improved detector should bring the cluster giants within reach. \normalsize \endflushleft
