The image issued with NOAO Press Release 98-02 is shown below in GIF format. You may also download a PDF version of this image or the individual images in higher resolution:
Image caption: The image on the left shows R136, a dense cluster of young hot stars at the center of the giant H II region in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The cluster contains the most massive stars yet discovered. The stars marked with circles in the image on the right are estimated to be more than 100 times the mass of the Sun. The line drawn near the bottom of the black and white image shows one arcsecond on the sky, which is a typical resolution limit for ground-based telescopes. The HST can resolve individual stars within one tenth of an arcsecond of sky, allowing detailed analysis of dense star clusters like R136. Photo credit: WFPC2 Science Team and NASA / NOAO.
