Image Caption:
The afterglow of GRB 990123 , which at the time of this observation remained brighter than its host galaxy, is pointed to by the arrow in this image from the National Science Foundation's 0.9-meter telescope on Kitt Peak. Observations of the Gamma-Ray Burster, first detected on 23 Jan 1999, will contribute to astronomers' understanding of these very unusual, and as yet unexplained, objects.
NOAO is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), Inc. under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.
